Learning to Cook

Look at that =) Not bad right...Chicken curry (with chicken thigh,potato and onions)...Xiao bai cai...beef omelette...we din buy rice la..the rice here is not nice one..its diff frm the ones in spore..gotta look for those medium grain ones..here its mostly long grain rice..and rice bags are heavy ok...we dun wanna carry tt on top of our milk, yoghurt, fruit juices + all the heavy heavy groceries that u can think of la..its terrible.. xp instant noodles are good...light, cheap...and can be cooked with almost anything!!

well, cooking's not tt hard after all..and its much more fun if u do it wif a couple of frenz...Ker Fern and I did the chicken curry and beef omelette together...Jeff did 1/2 of the veges..I did 1/2 of the veges...(its not we bo liao...Jeff cooked the vege in my small little pot and then left to get eggs and beef..then we felt its not enough..so I went on to cook more..)...then Jeff cooked maggi for all of us.. =)

Satisfying meal.... =) and its by our own effort!!!Tt makes it a whole lot better...

Playing Dress Up =)

Check this out man!!!!!!!haha..

It happened during yesterday's practical lesson..haha..We were learning about asepsis and prevention of infection...So we learn about how to wash our hands, handle basic dressing sets and put on gowns and gloves!! =) See why I wore green on tt day ya?haha..If it werent for the backdrop, u'd think i'm in the operating theatre (OT)...haha..

Tt lesson was interesting not only because we could dress up and look abit more like surgeons...but also the lecturer, Dr Ross Young, shared with us his experiences in the OT...

Near the end of the lesson, he told us that he has two false teeth in his mouth..and that's because he fainted, falling face down at that time..He asks us why and some of us answer, maybe its coz of the mask? But he rebutts and said tt we have been wearing the mask for nearly 1h30min already..and we havent fainted yet..why? and the class was silent..

After a while, he went on to give us the answer...It is not because of the mask..It is a physiological process that occurs within our body..

When we see something that our brain inteprets as horrifying (the OT is a bloody and gory place, it shld have a R21 rating..), our brain subconsciously sends impulses down to the heart to slow down the heart rate...Therefore, blood pressure drops and there isnt enough blood being circulated to the brain..once the brain is deprived of its nutrients..it will shut down...and we'll feel nausea, we'll sweat...and we'll faint eventually..doesnt occur in all people though (and I bet the majority of those who dont faint watched alot of bloody and gory stuff...haha)

Ya..then after tt he demo-ed to us what we shld do if we feel faint within the OT...he backed up to the wall..then slid down to sit on the floor with his back still on the wall..then after tt fall sideways..and the way he did it is sooo Mr Bean style that the whole class laughed...He's really funny..

About him being a funny man..there's also this thing that he did with Jeremy, me and 2 others during the time when we were learning how to do the hygienic hand wash...We were only allowed 15 sec to do our hand wash...and he said tt would be arnd the time we take to finish singing "Happy Birthday"..and he asked two of us to go ahead to wash our hands...and as soon as they started lathering their hands, he started swaying his body frm side to side comically and sang..

Monash Uni's great...cool and funny lecturers...Great collaborative atmosphere for learning..And great great bunch of friends around me... =) Cant imagine what it would be like if I chose to go to Glasgow...

Pot Luck

Today we had pot luck at Mel's hse..Its been great fun =)

We put in alot of effort ok...In the morning we woke up reeeeeaaaallly early to go to Brandon Park to buy our groceries and also to get whatever was required for whatever we wanted to cook at Mel's hse..It was a 1st time for most of us...and we originally planned to take the free shuttle bus there lor...but then Jasmine read somewhere tt it started only at 9.45am..so we decided to walk there at 9am...thinking tt by the time we reach there, the ppl taking the 1st shuttle bus wld also reach at abt the same time as us...But thennnn....when we were 1/3 of our way there, a white minivan with the Monash Uni logo went past us.... -.-" it was only abt 9.15am then lor..we cld have taken the shuttle bus...However, being the positive minded ppl that we are, we kept on walking...its gd exercise ma... =) haha...and we walked, and we walked, and we walked, and we walked................where's Brandon Park!! (@_@!)

We got so bored walking tt Yuan Hua, Jasmine and I started singing songs on the way there lo....actually we were humming most of the time coz none of us remember the lyrics.. =p and Ker Fen was taking notice of the flowers by the side of the road...wanted to take a photo of one flower..but in the end he didnt coz he cldnt find one nice enough.. =/ Walking in Australia is quite a pleasure to me..the cool morning air, the beautiful patches of grass with dandelions randomly blooming all over the lawn...bushes with nice pastel blue and light pink coloured flowers...Its such a wonderful feeling juz to take tt all in... =) Thank you my Lord...for all these beautiful things created by You..

after about 30minutes of walking, after the trio finished humming arnd 8-10 songs (mostly half completed though)...we finally reached Brandon Park and we did our shopping lo...Then we made our 2nd mistake... (@_@)

We were waiting for the shuttle bus at the pick up point arnd 12pm lo...then at abt 12.30 the shuttle came...and we thought tt it was the last one already..and there wasnt enough space for all of us..I was lucky enough to get up on it...so those who cldnt decided to walk...and walk...and walk...and walk...................and see 2 minivans with the Monash Uni logo printed on it zoom past them twice....haha...quite dumb rite...and once again...the positive minded group insisted tt it was gd exercise for their feet..and their arms too...carrying the groceries they bought in their hand... =)

After that we spent a lazy afternoon lazing arnd in each of our rooms..haha =)

In the evening, the cooking party went on to Mel's hse earlier to go prepare the food =) I wasnt part of it...I'm not confident of my culinary skills yet....haha.. =P well...I'm not lousy to the extent of burning her hse down ok....juz tt maybe ppl will spit out what I cook after tasting it...haha =P and besides...there are already lyk 7 ppl in the kitchen already...one more person who doesnt have any idea of what to cook for tt dinner will juz be an extra there lo...so i joined the buy-pizza party =)

When the pizza party reached the place..it was juz in time for dinner.. =) just look at the spread!!

Looks good rite =) I can see you salivating already....haha....the cooking party was great..can learn from them...But at that moment, all I thought was, "Let's all tuck in!!!! Ittadakimasu!!!!"

After dinner, we started off this drinking game coz there was lyk alot of beer left in the fridge...if i explained the rules here, i wld bore all of u to death..so i shall spare u the agony...wanna play the game? Juz prepare the alcohol, get lots of ppl and then ask me =)

And I am not drunk in the 2nd picture ok...I was just faking it..I only drank lyk 3/4 of a 375ml bottle..(shows tt i'm quite gd at the game ya...haha..well, it was juz spurred on by the thought tt I dun wanna drink so much...later get beer belly and my gf dun wan me ar....haha...)

It's been a fun session..we get to taste the great cooking of our dear friends..enjoy the company of one another...and have fun at the same time... =)

Yea....Sporemonashmed06 rox!!!!! =) u ppl are soooooo nice..help me celebrate my 21st bday overseas even though u all onli know me lyk 2 weeks...share knowledge and stuff with me so tt all of us cld settle down quickly....Maybe tt's part of the reason why I dun really miss home at all ever since I arrived...You ppl have made this place lyk a home already... =)

hmmm..one comment abt the name of our group though...its kinda.............well..i'd think tt only a group studying engineering would come up with such a group name...shall think of a better one..........another time...now its lyk 12.36am already la...gotta slp..tml i'm making pan cakes for breakfast!!yum yum!! =)
